STEM Day

Students created paper towers and paper planes. A special guest arrived and a scientist called in via Skype...

E A Southee applied for and received a grant from the Australian Science Association to hold a STEM day at the school. On the 29th August Kindergarten to Year 6 were involved with a STEM day which was organised by Mrs Dabin.

The day started with a Skype call from Jacqueline Tate who is a cancer researcher and a STEM educator focusing on Robotics.  Jac shared her journey through science and also showed us a Robot "ALPHA" she has been working with.

We then worked in our peer support groups to design, engineer and build a tower using only newspaper and tape that could support a basketball. Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke came down to lend a hand to our students.

After lunch we then competed in a paper plane challenge with one plane flying 16.5M. A great day was had by all students and a big thank you to Year 6 who guided our students through each challenge and also the Cootamundra High School students who came down to help.
